Exhibitors & competitions

Livestock, produce and homecraft classes are open to anyone — you do not need a farm, a pedigree or a history of showing. A first entry is judged by the same standard as the hundredth.

Provisional class list

The departments and deadlines below show how entry works. The authoritative class list, prize money and delivery times are published by the fair committee in the prize book.

Departments

Four departments, each with its own entry deadline and judging schedule.

Participation rules

  • Entries must be the exhibitor's own work or from their own farm or garden.
  • Entry forms must be received by the deadline for the department concerned.
  • Exhibits are delivered to the halls or rings at the times published in the prize book.
  • Judges' decisions are final. Judging follows the standards published for each class.
  • Prize money and trophies are awarded as set out in the prize book for each department.

If it's your first time

Pick one class, read what the judge is looking for, and enter one item. Most first-time exhibitors are surprised how far a well-prepared single entry gets. Bring it to the hall at the published time, and come back on judging day to see how it did.
